Lately, Chan has been brushing up on English, so I’ve started listening to more podcasts—especially psychology and sociology ones. So today’s post is all about my top 5 favorite podcasts by psychologists and social thinkers. Hope you’ll enjoy them too!

1. Jordan B. Peterson

Jordan Peterson is probably no stranger to most people. He’s a well-known clinical psychologist and the author of several influential books, including 12 Rules for Life. Chan really appreciates how logically he breaks down issues.

That said, to be honest, I preferred his topics and style from about five years ago. These days, his delivery feels a bit rigid and sometimes even comes across as confrontational. Still, looking on the bright side, his content continues to offer interesting perspectives on social issues—and that’s what keeps me listening. You can follow his videos, including the Answer the Call series, on his official YouTube channel here:

2. Dr. Kirk Honda

I first discovered Psychology In Seattle through some clips where Dr. Kirk Honda analyzed characters in movies. After that, I totally got hooked. Dr. Honda is both witty and incredibly insightful in his breakdowns of human behavior. He often uses examples from films, TV shows, or even online drama to explain psychological perspectives.

But honestly, not every story he covers is super engaging—some can feel a bit boring—so his podcast might not be for everyone. YouTube link: Psychology In Seattle – Welcome to the channel!

3. Sam Harris

Sam Harris isn’t just a psychologist—he’s also a philosopher, author, and meditation teacher. His podcast often dives into really mind-bending questions about morality, religion, and the nature of existence. The first time I listened, I have to admit…it was a bit hard to digest. Sometimes I don’t even fully agree with him.

But the highlight is that he collaborates with so many different people, which broadens the perspectives a lot. If you’re into exploring hot and controversial issues, Sam is your guy.

He also has a meditation series that’s pretty popular. I’m personally not into that “healing” style, but I thought I’d mention it for anyone interested. Here’s one video I recommend: Waking Up with Sam Harris – Looking for the Self

4. Robert Sapolsky

If you enjoy mixing psychology with biology and human behavior, then Robert Sapolsky is perfect. He’s famous for his research on stress and animal behavior (and yes, humans are included in that too). But the way he tells stories is super approachable with a touch of humor.

I love how he connects science with everyday life. And seriously—you have to check out his book Determined: A Science of Life Without Free Will. One video I keep going back to: Robert Sapolsky – Determined: Life Without Free Will

5. Katy Milkman

Katy Milkman is a professor at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, specializing in psychology and behavioral economics. She focuses on how to help people change their behavior in positive ways, so her content always feels very practical and down-to-earth.

One tip I learned from Katy is Temptation Bundling, pairing something you want to do with something you should do. For example, when I’m working from home, I only let myself watch YouTube or listen to my favorite podcasts while cleaning up or doing chores. That way, I get the boring stuff done and still feel happy afterward. (Though to be honest, sometimes I still prefer blasting TikTok music).

She doesn’t upload much on YouTube, but you can just search her name and you’ll find her talks and interviews.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoy listening to different voices and perspectives—everyone has their own unique style: Jordan is logical and disciplined, Kirk is warm and funny, Sam is deep and philosophical, Sapolsky is scientific yet relatable, and Katy is practical with real-life tips.

If you’re also looking for some fresh inspiration for learning and self-growth, I truly recommend giving at least one of these podcasts a try. Who knows, you might discover something that completely changes how you see yourself and the world
